Pantone Colour for 2019 – ‘Living Coral', will have you reaching for the paintbrush!

Pantone released their ‘Colour of the Year’ in January and now that the sun is shining and the temperature is rising, we, at Stella Mannering & Company are warming up to this summery shade.

This year’s Pantone colour of the year? ‘Living Coral’.

‘Living Coral’, also known as Pantone 16-1546, is a peachy orange described as “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone”, ”‘Living Coral’ appeals to our playful side and our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits”, says the brand and we have to agree - to us, the colour evokes energy and vitality and conjures up images of warmth, richness and that oh so longed for Summer heat.

What inspired Pantone to choose ‘Living Coral’ as their Colour of the Year 2019?

In choosing the colour of the year, Pantone combs the world for colour inspiration and draws influences from everywhere - Art, Fashion, Beauty, Technology, Travel and (of course) Interiors. What are people wearing and buying? And the colour of ‘Living Coral’ strikes us an appealing shade of connection. Representing the fusion of modern life it appears in our natural surroundings and at the same time has a presence in Social Media. It is earthbound, optimistic and intimate and this is exactly why ‘Living Coral’ is so desirable in Interior Design.

How can you use ‘Living Coral’ in your home?

The temptation may be to use ‘Living Coral’ as a feature colour - perhaps on cushions, lampshades, headboards or occasional chairs - and some of our favourite suppliers have incorporated the colour in their own collections which we can’t wait to use in our interior schemes this year.

Heathfield’s Otranto Table Lamp would be a very smart addition to a gentleman’s study; we’d love to use Samuel & Sons vibrant Vivienne embroidered border down the leading edges of some beautiful plain linen curtains; and we have our eye on a pair of Nina Campbell’s Tini tables for a guest bedroom we’re currently designing.

However the vibrancy and warmth of ‘Living Coral’ extends beyond the accent and it could be very successful as a whole interior scheme – painting all four walls to create a cosy den, add warmth to a north facing bathroom or enliven an uninteresting entrance hall - reach for the paintbrush or get rolling with similar shades like Little Greene’s striking ‘Orange Aurora’, Sanderson’s softer ‘Inkwood’ or for those feeling brave - Fired Earth’s ‘Festival Orange’.

‘Living Coral’ is a shade people want to live with and we are seeing its appearance increasingly in Interiors as well as other areas of our lives – make-up, clothes, accessories, flowers…

…Stella is jetting off to Barbados very soon and there’s no prizes for guessing what colour her holiday pedicure will be!
