So there goes another week of glorious weather, we’re starting to get used to this, long days spent in the sunshine, high temperatures and most importantly no rain!
Maybe our days of complaining about the Great British weather can be put firmly behind us, the prospect of a holiday at home is certainly looking more tempting than ever before, who needs to hop on a plane when you can drive for an hour to enjoy the wonderful countryside or catch a train to explore great British beaches or better still, stroll through your own back door to enjoy your own beautiful garden!
I’m lucky enough to have a husband who loves nothing more than a good barbecue, as soon as the sun shows its face, my oven gets a holiday and all the cooking moves outdoors, there’s nothing more relaxing than lying in the garden under the warm sun with the aroma of a Sunday joint slowly cooking on the Weber, we spend many a day and night in our garden, as the sun goes down, we light the brazier, grab a sweater and rug up under the stars.
On these summer days a garden becomes a real extension of a home so it has to be just as comfortable. Garden furniture has come a long way, and it’s easier than ever to make a style statement in your garden. Many of the major fabric houses have a range of outdoor fabrics so there’s no need to put up with that awful dated print that came with the swing chair, you can find a style that’s perfect for you so that your garden can be a continuation of the look you achieve in your home.
If you want to be bold and bright the light and sun of the Mediterranean is conjured up in Osborne & Little’s ‘Ionia’ collection, named after islands in the Ionian Sea off the western coast of Greece, the palette includes turquoise, lime, rust and denim along with neutral tones of black, stone and ivory.
Alternatively, for a hi-tech, current look, Zimmer & Rohde have a fabulous range of outdoor fabrics in contemporary designs and luminous magentas and bright turquoises exude the joys of summer.
Or take a look at Designers Guild’s 'Tiana' collection which comprises of fantastic designs including leafy prints, smart stripes, and textured and tweed fabrics, so beautiful they could grace any private garden, swimming pool or ocean going yacht.
Crucially the materials are perfect for all outdoor environments, resistant to sunlight, water and mildew, with stain repellent finishes they make for easy carefree relaxation.
So get outside, make the most of this weather while it lasts and celebrate stylish alfresco living!
